Operations Assistant

As an Operations Assistant, you’ll support the Group Operations Manager in a variety of areas, including logistics, compliance, health & safety, and administration. This is a varied and hands-on role, ideal for someone who enjoys working across departments, solving problems, and keeping things running efficiently behind the scenes.

Salary: £30,000 - £34,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Job Type & Hours: Full time/ Permanent/ Monday – Friday, 8am – 5.30pm (1hr for lunch).

Location: Kendal Depot (LA7 7FP) or Bispham Green Depot (L40 3SB)

Main Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and schedule haulage and transport across the business.
  • Support the Group Operations Manager with health & safety compliance and company-wide operational procedures.
  • Monitor and help maintain company vehicle records (e.g. MOTs, servicing, insurance).
  • Liaise with third-party contractors or service providers (e.g. waste management, utilities).
  • Assist with maintaining company operational policies, risk assessments and forms.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate records relating to legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Gather operational data and compile reports for internal use and audits
  • Support with general administration tasks in a timely and organised manner.
  • Help maintain systems and documentation to support continuous improvement of operations procedures.

Attributes we are looking for:

  • Previous experience in an operations or logistics role would be highly desirable but not essential.
  • Previous experience in an administrative/support role is essential.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build and maintain excellent working relationships with both our internal teams and external suppliers.
  • Proactive and organised work ethic, with the ability to work on own initiative, prioritise tasks, and effectively handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Strong IT skills, including familiarity with standard IT software and applications, including Excel spreadsheets.
